The 1BTR, a combined 9NC and the 2BTR of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNFCCC
The project aims to assist the Government of Kazakhstan in preparing its First Biennial Transparency Report (1BTR) and a combined Ninth National Communication and Second Biennial Transparency Report (9NC/2BTR), which will be submitted to the UNFCCC in 2024 and 2026, respectively. This will fulfill Kazakhstan's reporting obligations under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement in accordance with the Modalities, Procedures, and Guidelines (MPGs) outlined in Article 13 of the Paris Agreement and Decisions 18/CMA.1 and 5/CMA.3.
The project will help Kazakhstan improve its greenhouse gas emissions data, carry out targeted research, and strengthen its technical capacities and national institutions for mitigation and adaptation efforts. Additionally, it will support institutional arrangements to achieve the country’s long-term goal of carbon neutrality by 2060, address climate change impacts, and reduce emissions. The project will also work to integrate climate change considerations into national policies, plans, and programs, building on Kazakhstan’s existing capacities and lessons from previous national communications and biennial reporting efforts.
